the challenge

As Big Dutchman continued to expand internationally, its existing ERP landscape increasingly limited the company's ability to standardize processes and scale globally. The highly customized legacy environment had evolved over many years, making system integration, process harmonization, and international rollouts increasingly complex.

With Project ONE, Big Dutchman set out to establish SAP S/4HANA as the strategic backbone of its global IT landscape. The objective was not only to replace the existing ERP system but also to create a standardized global template that could be deployed step by step across regions while maintaining business continuity throughout the transformation.

Key challenges included:

  • Transforming a highly customized ERP landscape into a scalable global SAP S/4HANA platform.
  • Standardizing business processes while accommodating international business requirements.
  • Integrating procurement, logistics, finance, and supporting business applications into one harmonized digital ecosystem.
  • Establishing a repeatable global rollout model that enables future implementations with minimal disruption.
  • Ensuring business continuity throughout a multi-phase international transformation.

the solution

Nagarro partnered with Big Dutchman throughout Project ONE, combining SAP transformation expertise with a structured implementation methodology to deliver a future-ready enterprise platform.
The transformation introduced SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud as the strategic ERP backbone based on SAP RISE and followed the SAP Activate methodology.

Beginning with the company's headquarters, Nagarro developed a global template designed for phased international rollouts, ensuring consistency across regions while allowing local deployment in manageable stages.

Beyond the ERP core, the program modernized procurement and supply chain processes by integrating solutions including SAP Ariba, Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), Transportation Management (TM), Global Trade Services (GTS), OpenText, and Master Data Governance. Additional capabilities such as SAP Signavio for process modeling and test automation supported a controlled and efficient transformation.

The result was a standardized, scalable enterprise architecture that supports future innovation while reducing operational complexity across the global organization.

The transformation delivered standardized business processes, increased transparency across core operations, and a scalable platform that supports future global rollouts. By harmonizing procurement, logistics, finance, and supporting business functions on a common architecture, Big Dutchman strengthened operational efficiency while creating a solid technological foundation for future digital initiatives.

With a structured implementation approach, strong governance, and close collaboration between Big Dutchman and Nagarro, Project ONE became more than an ERP modernization—it became a strategic enabler for long-term business growth and digital transformation.

The introduction of SAP S/4HANA and the organizational transformation that comes with it support our strategic direction and our evolution from a family-owned, mid-sized business into a global enterprise.
