On Time, on Budget SAP data migration for DVV

challenge
challenge

In alignment with their business needs, DVV decided to migrate data from their existing SAP system to SAP S/4HANA. The aim was to reliably and securely transfer selected master and transaction data from the modules used (human resources, purchasing and procurement, finance), as well as from logistics components such as maintenance, within the specified timeframe, and to establish stable processes in line with the auditor's requirements.

Two project organizations were responsible: one for the client comprising seven teams and one for DVV. A total of around 250 employees were involved.

At the beginning of the project, a timeline was set for the go-live and milestones were also defined. Implementation took place in various phases using the SAP Activate model. During the implementation phase, various tests relating to data migration, processes and end-to-end workflows were developed and carried out. It was important that, on one hand, the processes functioned correctly, and, on the other hand, all necessary data was migrated.

A key factor driving the decision to migrate was that, after completion of the test phase, no errors classified as 'very high' or 'high' would remain.

Selective Data Transition (SDT) was chosen as the preferred approach for the data migration. Under this approach, the majority of the data was left in the legacy system and only a limited amount of data was migrated. This approach was chosen because, upon analyzing the existing system, DVV had determined that there was no need for action regarding the adaptation of established processes and that these could and should largely be carried over.

Ultimately, the project was successfully completed within the agreed timeframe, budget, and quality standards.

Three factors were crucial to the smooth running of the project: firstly, the excellent cooperation between the two teams, who were keen to see the project succeed. Secondly, the support from management. Furthermore, Nagarro was very accommodating in the drafting of the contract. All of this is indicative of a partnership of equals.”
