Modernizing storage management for future-ready operations

As the customer expanded internationally, subscription costs grew, and infrastructure-related incidents increased due to its Box.com storage management solution. Faced with growing operational challenges and the need to optimize costs and service delivery, they recognized the importance of modernizing its document management capabilities. They needed a cloud-based Data Storage Management Solution (DSMS) that would deliver enhanced scalability and efficiency. The new platform would enhance the core functionalities of Box.com, including document upload, previewing, and malware scanning (for new and existing documents).  Furthermore, it would migrate all client and tenant systems without disrupting ongoing business operations and streamline their complex IT landscape into a more consolidated and scalable environment. To address these issues, they partnered with Nagarro and AWS to replace their existing solution with a new DSMS .

Nagarro, in close collaboration with AWS, partnered with the customer's architecture and operations teams to craft a robust re-architecture strategy for transitioning from a legacy Box.com-based solution to AWS cloud-native services. Utilizing AWS POC funding and structured migration strategy frameworks, the team defined a comprehensive project roadmap.

In the initial phase, we rebuilt the system’s core functions (APIs) into microservices, written in Rust (a modern programming language known for speed and safety). Everything was deployed on Amazon EKS. The new platform has an admin interface for managing tenant configurations, and a data migration utility, designed to facilitate a seamless and secure transition of tenant data from Box.com to the new platform.

By leveraging AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service and reducing infrastructure-related incidents, the project is expected to achieve significant cost savings and operational efficiency while eliminating Box subscription fees.

This cloud-first transformation is modernizing the client's IT infrastructure and positions them favorably for scalable global growth, enhanced agility, and streamlined operations. 

Faster client onboarding and accelerated time-to-market are achieved by rapidly scaling services for new customers. The platform ensures high service resilience and enterprise-grade security using AWS-native security mechanisms. It also offers scalability to support larger user bases, data volumes, and workloads.

By consolidating legacy infrastructure into a streamlined, cloud-native architecture, it simplifies the IT footprint and reduces operational complexity. It further delivers cost efficiency by optimizing expenses related to document storage, processing, and infrastructure maintenance.
