Last week I attended the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s event celebrating the “40 Under 40” list for 2011. In addition to getting a sneak peek at plans for the 49ers new stadium, it was great to meet face to face with my fellow entrepreneurs from this year’s list. Continued »

The last decade has seen great changes in India, and no city reflects this new India more than Gurgaon does. In this Millennium City you find both the energy and promise that characterize the new India, as well as its chaos and disappointments.
The litany of shortcomings is familiar – broken roads, little public transport, power and water shortages, deficient sewage, and a high incidence of violent crime. Against this, you have considerable efforts being made by organizations such as iamgurgaon and the Cybercity Welfare Society, and by a Municipal Council that is trying hard to take control of the situation.
Gurgaon has the potential to be a role model for the modernizing country. Below, I humbly suggest five ideas for getting there.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to present at event hosted by the German State of Hessen and its FrankfurtRhineMain region in cooperation with the German Consulate and the German American Business Association at the Marriott in San Francisco. I shared Nagarro’s experience working in Europe, and the ups and downs in our successful journey as we have grown in Europe over the last decade.

The attendees were business leaders from the local community, several of whom were looking to expand their operations into Germany and other parts of western Europe. The presentation was well received, and has been reported on their website here. As we enter the next phase of our growth, we continue look for the support of our customers and team members to continue our expansion in Germany and in the rest of Europe.
Last year we began working with Helveta, the UK-based maker of supply chain intelligence software, CI World™. Helveta was seeing record demand for its unique product, which offers companies with global supply chains – such as the food and timber industries – complete supply chain visibility and control.
In order to ramp up its software development efforts and fill out its engineering team, Helveta brought on Nagarro as a partner. Helveta and Nagarro worked side by side to offer customers the latest product advances even sooner than originally planned, cementing Helveta’s position as the leader in its market.
Nagarro produced the results Helveta asked for on time and within budget. But what really stands out is the feedback we hear from Helveta again and again: Nagarro goes the extra mile, bringing a creative and proactive approach to this partnership in order to deliver real strategic value.
To hear about this project in the customer’s own words, please check out our new Helveta testimonial video.
The recent buzz about Apple leaving people running OS X 10.4 in a lurch if they buy the latest iOS devices (such as iPhone 4 or iPad 2) got me thinking about how important backwards compatibility is when you are a products company. The issue is that new iOS devices require iTunes 10.x to sync with the computer. However, iTunes 10.x requires a minimum of OS X 10.5 to run. This means that anyone who is still running the (couple of generations old) 10.4 version cannot use a new iOS device unless they upgrade their operating system.
The catch? You have to pay for the upgrade. There is an upgrade cost of around $30 to upgrade. The reason there’s been a lot of buzz is that the new iTunes works just fine on Windows XP (OS X competitor). This simple instance demonstrates the wildly different approach that a product company can take when it comes to providing backwards compatibility.
This post is not an analysis – instead it’s just a collection of examples taken from various articles about how different software giants handle backwards compatibility.
Many of our customers think we are, as confirmed by the judges from this year’s Global Outsourcing 100 List, the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’® (IAOP) listing of the world’s top outsourcers.
We are proud to report that Nagarro earned a perfect score for Customer Satisfaction in the 2011 Global Outsourcing 100 List. This score, which is based on a combination of direct customer input and third-party references, was tabulated by an esteemed panel of IAOP judges from companies like Eastman Kodak, Liberty Mutual Insurance and American Express.
While no one is perfect, this level of achievement sets the bar at the highest level – which is just where we like it, and exactly where our customers should expect it.

It’s one thing to profess technical excellence; it’s quite another to prove it.
In 2008, Nagarro embarked on a process improvement journey with an objective of inculcating an organization-wide culture of managing activities based on robust, standardized, and well defined processes. The Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), an internationally recognized standard for assessing software development practices, was identified as the implementation model for this initiative.
Nagarro achieved its first milestone – a rating of Maturity Level 3 – in November 2009. And this month, following a rigorous nine-day appraisal led by a High Maturity Lead Appraiser (HMLA) from KPMG, Nagarro officially received a rating of CMMI Maturity Level 4.
CMMI Maturity Level 4 gives our customers an added sense of security in Nagarro’s ability to successfully execute extremely large and complex projects in a predictable manner. It also helps Nagarro attract and retain the world-class talent we are known for.
However, we won’t rest on our laurels for long. We are already working toward appraisal at CMMI Maturity Level 5 and look forward to sharing more great news on this subject in the months to come.

We’re in good company: IAOP’s 2011 Outsourcing World Summit and Global Outsourcing 100 List
A few of us from Nagarro spent the first half of last week in Palm Springs, California at the 2011 Outsourcing World Summit, hosted by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP). Having just been named to the IAOP’s Global Outsourcing 100 List for the second year in a row, we have been looking forward to meeting with some of the world’s top outsourcing service providers and enterprise customers.
This event did not disappoint. The speaker line-up was loaded with big-name companies like Coca Cola, Microsoft, P&G, Johnson & Johnson, PETCO, and Eastman Kodak, to name a few. Many other brand-name global companies were in also in attendance.
One key take-away was the value of partnership. It may be an obvious concept, especially here at Nagarro, where strong partnerships with our clients are truly at the core of our success. But partner relationships can sometimes fall short. Something that resonated with me was when one executive stated that you know you are a true partner – rather than just a vendor – when you are involved in the planning process. I loved this definition. In Nagarro’s strongest customer relationships, we have certainly found this to be true and extremely beneficial to both parties.
Another trend touched on at this event was how, rather than just focusing on cost-savings, companies are looking more and more to outsourcers for domain expertise and examples of best practices – two benefits Nagarro customers regularly talk about.
I’ve left this summit inspired, as I do each time Nagarro receives validation of our industry-leading approach, whether it’s in the form of an award, third-party observations, or – as was the case this week – both.
2010 was a pivotal year here at Nagarro. We brought on more new global enterprise customer accounts worldwide than in the previous three years combined. Meanwhile, our existing enterprise customer base nearly doubled its investments in high-end strategic software development projects, especially around custom analytics.
In Europe, we doubled our sales over 2009’s totals. And our new sales office in Mexico is booming with a new sales director and two new major enterprise customers. Finally, we signed on more than two dozen new small and midsize customers in five countries, and brought on hundreds of new engineering employees to support the growing demand for our services.
As we forge into 2011, Nagarro’s focus will be on continuing to add banner accounts to our customer roster, while expanding Nagarro’s value across more areas within our existing customers’ businesses.
To all of Nagarro’s customers, partners, employees and friends – thank you for choosing Nagarro, and here’s to more great things to come in 2011!

The results have been nothing short of transformational. Internal efficiency, customer satisfaction and cost effectiveness are at an all-time high. By modeling best practices and helping Mitsubishi Chemical make the most of its existing SAP investments, Nagarro has opened the door for Mitsubishi Chemical to rise above day-to-day tasks and focus on the company’s long-term strategic vision.

I recently attended an advanced workshop with MicroStrategy, where they talked about the new 9.0.2 release (also called MicroStrategy 9 Release 3), advances in dashboards and documents, mobile capabilities and so on. I also had the opportunity to network with some peers and learn from their experiences and challenges. Continued »
