Overview
Nagarro’s client is a large Consulting firm with several subsidiaries who wanted to create a scalable data warehouse solution for its financials using available commercial solutions. They preferred the use of generic components for the warehouse solution so that overall cost of the solution remained low as it would be deployed at several locations.
Problem Description
The client had a number of international locations where there was limited visibility into both financial and operational data. They were looking for a data warehouse solution to be designed for accurate reporting of financials from its various world-wide locations. In addition, there were additional challenges that needed to be addressed, including the following:
- Business processes, including financial reporting mechanisms were different across geographically disparate locations.
- Little or no integration of technology within the organization existed and each location used its own transactional systems, which were often not compliant with each other.
- It was operationally challenging to consolidate information from these diverse sources.
Solution
Nagarro worked in partnership with the client’s teams to identify the key business requirements for functionality, price and performance. Subsequently, Nagarro’s team evaluated commercially available data warehousing tools on the basis of the metrics previously defined. It was determined that multiple BI&DW tools were needed to achieve all the objectives of the project, and the following structure was finalized:
- Informatica™ was the chosen platform for data warehouse operations – extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) based on the system requirements.
- A dimensional model was designed as per existing data sources into the Oracle™ database.
- A reporting framework was developed in Cognos™ to generate business reports: both on-demand and on fixed schedules.
Benefits
- The customer now had a unified view of data along with accurate reporting of financials and supporting various filtering criteria.
- Reporting periods were no longer dictated by technology and now business reports could be scheduled or generated in an ad-hoc manner.
- The solution was easy to use, so less time was spent on extracting knowledge and more time spent on analyzing it.
