Overview
To maintain its technological advantage over competitors, Denmark-based 7-Technologies (7T), a market leader in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, needed the next version of its flagship product be designed for the next generation of Microsoft operating systems, Windows Vista. Nagarro, a Microsoft Gold Certified Provider, was able to take on the challenge of porting the product to the yet unreleased system, thus allowing 7T to remain ahead of its competition.
Problem Description
For 15 years 7T has been the market leader in graphical SCADA systems. Known for its highly user-friendly systems, it was the first company to introduce a graphic display SCADA system, as well as the first company to introduce a SCADA system that interfaced with PCs. Its flagship product, the Interactive Graphical SCADA System (IGSS), is used by more than 25,000 industrial plants worldwide, ranging from breweries to some of the largest cruise liners in the world. As a forward thinking company, 7T uses new technologies to improve its products. In 2005, 7T began thinking about how the 2008 introduction of Microsoft Windows Vista would affect its business. The company knew the system would provide users with a more intuitive interface than prior Windows operating systems. It also knew existing customers would eventually switch over to the new platform. 7T decided to take a proactive approach and be the first company to offer a Windows Vista SCADA system. The Microsoft Windows Vista porting project was a large project and expected to last two years. Further, IGSS was a complex product that had to precisely interface with mission critical systems and accurately display vital information to end-users. Porting it to an operating system still in beta was not a simple task and required expert knowledge. Unfortunately the company didn’t have the resources to handle the project alone and faced the possibility of having to delay the release of the product if a solution couldn’t be found. 7T needed to partner with a dependable company able to map out a reliable time schedule and maintain a highly competent development team.
Solution
After successfully partnering with Nagarro on several projects, 7T knew Nagarro was the right company to act as a co-development partner on the Windows Vista porting project.
Nagarro, a Microsoft Gold Certified Provider, was able to assemble a team of experienced and dedicated engineers able to “live and breathe” IGSS. The company was also able to provide a solution for porting IGSS from VC++ to .NET 3.0 on Windows Vista. Development was performed within a well-established framework that enhanced the reliability and robustness of the product.
